Overview
The Manah II Solar Project represents OPWP's commitment to advancing Oman's renewable energy capabilities. Covering a substantial area of 1500 hectares, the initiative aimed to construct a state-of-the-art solar power facility in Manah, integrating it within Oman's broader energy matrix.
Challenges:
The survey team was presented with the significant challenge of a constricted timeline to execute a comprehensive topographic survey. This survey needed to encapsulate a myriad of details, such as wadi bed intricacies, intricate road designs, and other critical topographical features that were essential for the meticulous planning of a solar power facility. Solutions Implemented: To accomplish the task within the allotted time frame, the following high-tech
Tools and methodologies were utilized:
The Manah II Solar Project's survey was revolutionized by employing RTK drones, which efficiently gathered topographic data over the expansive terrain. Pix4D Mapper software transformed this data into precise 2D and 3D maps vital for planning. Infrastructure design and simulation were adeptly managed by Autodesk Civil 3D, ensuring detailed design accuracy. Leica Cyclone's processing power, combined with high-resolution 3D scanners, delivered an exceptionally detailed model of the site's terrain. The accuracy of these aerial surveys was underpinned by Leica RTK GPS systems, which provided exact ground control points. This suite of solutions guaranteed a meticulous foundation for the project's development.
Outcomes
The advanced surveying techniques and tools enabled the team to overcome the time constraints and deliver a highly detailed topographic survey. The rich data set included critical information such as the precise delineation of wadi beds — crucial for assessing flood risks and understanding the natural drainage patterns on-site. Detailed road network data was also provided, which is vital for the planning of construction logistics and future access for maintenance. The integration of comprehensive aerial and ground-based survey data equipped OPWP with the detailed insights required for the efficient planning and execution of the Manah II Solar Project.
